Bike Show 2006: 2006 Continuing our commitment to educating bikers of the dangers of high speed collisions, the West Midlands Casualty Reduction Partership, as part of the Midlands Safety Camera Partnerships (MSCP) group, attended the International Motorcycle and Scooter Show at the NEC near Birmingham in October 2006. ![]() MSCP stand Our interactive stand included two hard-hitting crash reconstructions to warn bikers of the consequences of excessive and inappropriate speed. It was hoped that seeing the effects of these collisions would help persuade bikers to think carefully about the situation and to use speed appropriately when dealing with hazards and other road users. An updated version of the Midlands safety camera locations CD-ROM, which also included general road safety information for bikers and safety camera FAQs, was available for visitors to the stand. MSCP joined forces with British motorcycle legend 'Rocket Ron' Haslam to encourage bikers to slow down and stay safe. Explaining his reasons for supporting motorcycle safety, the four times British champion commented: "Motorcycle safety is vital - no matter how much experience you have. It is so important to be aware of your speed and the dangers around you, whether you are on the road or on the track. "I am pleased to support an initiative that encourages bikers to enjoy what they do, but keep themselves and others safe." ![]() MSCP stand One lucky biker had the opportunity to win a £250 track day at Donington Race Track, including learning advanced riding skills and techniques during a half-day training course with Ron's very own race school. Both Ron, and his son Leon Haslam, who is a current British Superbike star, showed their support by appearing on the stand. A spokesperson for MSCP, said: "We are so grateful to Ron for supporting us at this famous motorcycle event. "We hope that such a legendary and well-respected biker can encourage motorcyclists to slow down, stay safe and reduce the number of casualties on the roads." |
