“All we hear is cameras, cameras, cameras; nobody does anything about all the other hazards out there” In a recent report that looked at the Safety Camera project over the first three years, on average £54m1 was spent each year on the programme, which included camera equipment, engineering and education. Each year, Local Government spend about £2.15bn2 on road safety and road structure improvements, which include traffic-calming measures. In the scheme of things the Safety Camera Programme accounts for a very small percentage of all the work being done by Local Authorities, the Police, the NHS and all the other road safety organisations in the UK.
