Think Lives, Think Bike! New campaign launches in West Midlands

West Midlands Casualty Reduction Scheme have launched a motorcycle road safety campaign in partnership with Staffordshire Casualty Reduction Partnership, Gloucester Road Safety Partnership, The Safer Roads Partnership in West Mercia and Warwickshire County Council to help reduce the number of motorcycle related collisions on routes throughout West Midlands.

"Think Bike, Look Twice", "Bikers Beware" and "Beware Bikers" posters have been produced to raise awareness of the risks to motorcyclists and have been erected along roads within the seven local authority areas in West Midlands.

The posters are to serve as a reminder to both motorcyclists and car drivers of the importance of considering each other whilst travelling and carrying out manoeuvres. They will be erected during the spring, summer and autumn months and taken down during winter, this will assist in increasing the effectiveness of the campaign by not allowing drivers and riders to get used to the signs or take them for granted.

Lisa Newmarsh, Scheme Support Manager, said "Although West Midlands is a typically urban area and does not have any specific 'motorcycle routes', many motorcyclists use our roads to commute to work or to other more rural regions and we wanted to erect the posters along connecting roads to ensure we have a consistent approach to raise awareness and educate drivers and riders, both recreational and commuter, in road safety."
